SUMMARY/SCOPE:
This
faculty member will teach undergraduate classes, supervise internships, and
direct the minor in Political Science, as well as collaborate with other
academic areas within the university, e.g., Criminal Justice, History,
Philosophy, Psychology, and Social Work. This will be a 9-month contracted, part-time
faculty position with enhanced compensation. The expected teaching load will be
2, 3-credit classes during the Fall and Spring semesters, in addition to the
supervision of internship students.

Teach
lower- and upper-level undergraduate Political Science classes.
Advise current
and prospective students studying Political Science.
Collaborate
effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the community.
Participate
in recruitment activities for Political Science, the college, as well as the
university.
Provide
service to the university through involvement in committees as well as
university activities (e.g., commencement).
Engage in
ongoing scholarly work as well as professional development.

There
are no supervisor responsibilities, except for student workers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read,
analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial
reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or
complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business
community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform
to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to
top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add,
subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and
to draw and interpret bar graphs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A doctoral degree in Political Science is preferred. Teaching experience is
preferred. A master’s degree and at least 18 completed graduate credit hours in
Political Science (or closely related area) is required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This
position is a Part-Time Exempt Level Faculty Position with a teaching load at
the Hardin-Simmons University campus. Additional travel may be required for
student evaluation/sponsorship and/or professional development.
Must
have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving
record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must
be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Infrequent travel may be
required on occasion in order to attend training, etc.
