SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The College of Health Professions invites applications for an adjunct position in the Communication Sciences and Disorders undergraduate program.  Applicants should have a master’s degree in speech-language pathology.  ASHA CCC-SLP certification and current Texas licensure are required.  Candidates should have research, clinical, and/or teaching experience in the fields of pediatric language disorders, and articulation/phonological disorders, as well as an understanding of implementing speech-language services in the school setting.  Responsibilities include undergraduate class instruction and clinical supervision during student practicum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This adjunct professor will teach the clinical internship course offered in the Communication Sciences and Disorders undergraduate department.

Teaches subjects within prescribed curriculum.

Supervises students during clinical practicum.

Ensures evidence-based practice during treatment.

Provides feedback to students regarding their clinical skills.

Reviews and corrects students’ treatment notes.

Compiles specialized materials for outside reading assignments.

Stimulates class discussions.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Applicants should have a master’s degree in speech-language pathology.  At least 3-5 years of clinical experience in the field of speech-language pathology is required.  

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

ASHA CCC-SLP certification and current Texas licensure in speech language pathology are required.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. 

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

The job is sedentary in nature. Must be able to sit for long periods of time while performing office and computer operations.

Must be able to stand and walk during teaching.

Must be able to make frequent trips across campus to various buildings and offices. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is a part-time/temp adjunct position (no more than 29 hours per week) with teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus.
