POSITION:  Adjunct Faculty - Irvin School of Education Instructor

SUMMARY/SCOPE:

Candidates for the position are encouraged to integrate Christian faith with teaching. The position start date is January 2024. The course is ECED 3300 Physical Activities for Children on Tuesday/Thursday 8:00AM-9:15AM.  A part of HSU’s Irvin School of Education, the Department of Educational Studies offers undergraduate degrees that prepare students to take the TEXES for teacher certification in a variety of content fields.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Teaching responsibilities may include, but are not limited to undergraduate course in ECED 3300 Physical Activities for Children, Tuesday/Thursday 8:00AM-9:15AM, face-to-face class.

Supervision/organization of teacher preparation pre-student teaching field experience in public schools.

Regular teaching load for an adjunct faculty member is 6 or less semester hours per long semester.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Doctorate in Physical Education, ABD or master degree may be considered with appropriate experience relevant to the position responsibilities of ECED 3300 Physical Activities for Children.

Current Texas teacher certification or eligibility for the Texas credential.

Experience in the public school setting.

Previous university/college teaching experience.

Familiarity with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Texas public schools and State Board for Educator Certification/ Texas Education Agency standards including discrete knowledge and skills for beginning teachers on which Texas teacher preparation programs base curriculum and are held accountable.

Familiarity with best, well-researched teaching practices.

Familiarity with Professional Development Schools model and evidence of successful previous experience in university-public school collaboration.

Christian who will be supportive of the mission of Hardin-Simmons University.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Current Texas teacher certification or eligibility for the Texas credential.

Experience in the public school setting.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Office and classroom work; working with technology, travel for field experiences.  Students are learning how to work with children in a physical education classroom setting. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Classroom, gym or outdoor setting when needed

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is a part-time/temp adjunct position (no more than 29 hours per week) with teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus.

Must be a resident of the state of Texas.
