SUMMARY/SCOPE:
To provide a safe and sane environment for all patrons and student
employees in the Fletcher Fitness Center outdoor pool.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Guard the outdoor facilities
with constant supervision, using preventive life-guarding techniques.
Enforce all rules fairly (you
are responsible for knowing them).
Maintain cleanliness of the
pool and outdoor areas.
Work to create friendly
relationships with all patrons using the facility.
If there are signs of fecal
contamination, vomit, blood contamination, or dead animals in the pool, clear
the pool and notify the head guard or Assistant Director immediately.
Any questions about pool
parties should be directed to the Assistant Director.
Be sure to maintain current
certifications. The UREC Department will offer opportunities to update your
certifications, but you are ultimately responsible.
Constantly monitor the pool
chemistry. If the water shows signs of turning green or cloudy contact a
supervisor or director immediately.
Maintain hourly water chemistry
checks and records.
Monitor pool equipment to
ensure it is not stolen or broken.
If a storm is approaching, take
down umbrellas and put away any loose equipment.
If you cannot see the main drains at the
bottom of the pool (due to rain, wind, or water clarity) you must clear the
pool.
Be sure to check with your
supervisor or director before leaving from your shift.
Attend all staff training and
meetings.
Must complete other
duties as assigned

Certified Lifeguard through
American Red Cross. If not currently certified, contact Chantelle Lancaster at chantelle.lancaster@hsutx.edu. The UREC Department will work accordingly to
ensure you're eligible to attend a training for certification.
