SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Speech-Language Pathology Department at Hardin-Simmons University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenured faculty position in the graduate program. The candidate will join a dynamic team of committed professionals interested in advancing the success of SLP students.   This position is a 9-month academic year appointment at a faith-based institution which will begin August 2022.  Primary job responsibilities include teaching in the graduate program, providing clinical supervision of graduate students, service to the university, community and profession and student recruitment events and alumni engagement. Additionally, a commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds is essential.  Expertise is preferred in one of the following areas: neuromotor disorders, fluency, and/or child speech-sound disorders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Provide student mentorship and support

Supervision of students receiving clinical contact hours in the university clinic

Participate in departmental, university and professional service

Engage in appropriate and required faculty development activities that foster  achievement of program outcomes

Participate in external and internal recruitment activities for the SLP Program

Maintain accurate records and documents and submit timely reports.   

Records/documents include but are not limited to syllabi, grades, and office hours.

Schedule, announce, post, and maintain sufficient office hours to allow students time for formal and informal contact that may include but is not limited to advising, mentoring and remediation.

Strive to ensure the highest level of faculty and student morale within the school and maintain harmonious, professional collegial, and productive working relationships among colleagues, both within the school and university at large.

Fulfill all classroom, whether face-to-face or online, and clinical duties essential to the role of faculty, as assigned, by the Dean/Program Chair.

Attend faculty meetings and participate in the process of faculty governance within the College of Health Profession.

Participate in committees to which you are assigned by attending regularly and fulfilling assigned responsibilities.

Participate in curriculum and program development.

Utilize evidenced based practice and best practices in the teaching-learning process.

Participate in the preparation for and meetings of the Accreditation and Board visits.

Know and uphold the policies in the Graduate Catalogs, Graduate   

Student/Clinical Handbook, and HSU Faculty & Staff Handbook.

Participate in the advising, mentoring and remediation of students.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.  

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Calipso; and ClinicNote.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Ph.D./Ed.D. in Speech Language Pathology or a related field required.

Current Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA.

Eligible for Texas State Licensure to practice in Speech-Language Pathology. 

A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience and/or 3 years of supervision.

Must meet the requirements for clinical supervision stated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

This position requires standing/sitting for lectures, stooping, squatting, kneeling, getting up and down from the floor and lifting up to 50 lbs frequently.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is a Full-Time Exempt Level Faculty position with a teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus. Must be willing to relocate to Abilene, Texas, or the surrounding area to teach in-person classes on the HSU Campus.

A normal 40-hour workweek is required, with infrequent work on evenings or Saturdays.

Must have an maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.

Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
