Supports faculty across the College of Health Professionals
with initiatives involving clinical simulation and effective teaching
strategies in a simulated patient care environment.
Oversees preparation of all simulated patient care
environments and components such as equipment, supplies, computers, and
materials needed to replicate virtual healthcare settings.
Collaborates with faculty to ensure the preparation of lab
supplies and equipment based on faculty requests and course schedules.
Oversees operation and maintenance of computerized
simulation equipment.
Oversees the scheduling of learning experiences in the
clinical/simulation lab by ensuring open lab and structured lab utilization
times are available, communicated, and appropriately resourced.
Participates, as needed, in
providing solutions for problems in the HSU School of Nursing.
Responds appropriately to an
annual evaluation conference with the Assistant Professor of Nursing/Director of Curriculum.
Engages in appropriate and required
professional development activities that foster the achievement of program
outcomes and development of the HSU School of Nursing.
Participates in external and
internal recruitment activities for the HSU School of Nursing.
Follows the organizational
chain of command for reporting problems in the HSU School of Nursing.
Maintains accurate
records/documents and submit timely reports.
Records/documents simulation
activities/labs including but not limited to syllabi, grades, and office hours.
Maintains familiarity with the
accreditation requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON rule 215.7 (c),
Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Society for Simulation in
Healthcare (SSH), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Maintains all Society for
Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) supportive documentation and participate in the
simulation lab accreditation process.
Participates in preparation for
and in meetings of the accreditation agencies and TXBON visits.
Understands and upholds the
policies in the universities’ Undergraduate/Graduate Catalogs, HSU School of
Nursing Student, and Faculty Handbook(s).
Assists with in the budget
planning process.
Makes recommendations regarding
equipment, computer and simulation labs, technology, software, and supplies.
Collaborate with
simulation coordinator, faculty, and IT support to ensure smooth lab
operations.
Lab assistants or lab
coordinators are not considered nursing faculty and, therefore, they cannot
teach students, nor can they evaluate students’ performance in the skills lab.
However, the lab assistant or lab coordinator who is a nurse may follow a pre-set
lab procedure, coach the students, and check-off students’ practice in the lab.
Checking-off practice differs from evaluation, as evaluation is a more
complicated activity and involves making a decision about a student’s
performance, skills acquisition, and mastery of content.
Serve as a resource to
students during skills labs, open lab hours, and simulation experiences.
Assist with the
coordination and logistics of clinical placements when needed.
The Simulation
Lab & Clinical Teaching Assistant is responsible for preparing,
staging, and resetting the simulation and skills lab rooms. This includes
managing manikins, task trainers, supplies, and props to ensure a professional
and functional learning environment.
The position operates and troubleshoots simulation software, audiovisual
systems, and manikin controllers during lab sessions. The Simulation Lab & Clinical Teaching Assistant also
performs routine maintenance on equipment, coordinates repairs with vendors,
and monitors inventory to maintain stock and reorder supplies as needed.
During simulation and skills sessions, the Simulation
Lab & Clinical Teaching Assistant supports faculty by managing
room flow, moulage, timing, and scenario cues. The role also assists with
debriefing logistics, such as managing video playback and securing recordings
in accordance with policy.
The Simulation Lab & Clinical Teaching Assistant ensures
the safety and cleanliness of the lab, enforces equipment handling guidelines,
and creates and maintains standard operating procedures, quick-start guides,
and checklists for lab use.
This role tracks student attendance, lab usage, and equipment checkouts while
maintaining accurate records for program needs. Coordination with IT and
vendors is also required to ensure proper operation of software, hardware, and
audiovisual systems.
While the Simulation Lab & Clinical Teaching
Assistant may coach students during practice sessions under the
supervision of faculty, the role does not independently teach or evaluate
students.
The Simulation Lab & Clinical Teaching Assistant collaborates
with simulation coordinator, faculty, and IT staff to ensure smooth lab
operations and alignment with program objectives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from
four-year college or university required.

must meet the minimum requirements for employment in the baccalaureate in
nursing program as required by the Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON) [rule
215.7 (c)]; Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the

Hold a current and unencumbered
license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
Certified Healthcare Simulation
Educator – CHSE certification is strongly preferred at the time of hire.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current Registered Nurse (RN)
license in the state of Texas (required).
Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR
certification (required).

(e.g., Laerdal, Gaumard) (preferred).
Information technology or
AV-related certifications (preferred).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a Non-Exempt/Hourly,
Full-Time Staff Position at the Hardin-Simmons University campus in Abilene,
Texas.
A regular 40-hour work week is
expected and possibly more during peak periods of the academic year. Infrequent
work on evenings or Saturdays, when needed.
All hours worked beyond 40
hours in a single work week will be compensated at time and a half, per FLSA
guidelines.
Must have and maintain a valid
Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable
under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive to
complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed at the various clinical
sites.
Additional travel may be
required on occasion for training or professional development.
