Leadership and supervision of
the undergraduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and the
graduate program in Speech-Language and Pathology (SLP), including meeting all
accreditation requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
(ASHA).
Recruit, hire, mentor, manage,
and evaluate faculty members (full-time and/or adjunct) to meet accreditation
requirements for teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs. The SLP
standard 2.3 states: "The program must demonstrate that the majority of
academic content is taught by doctoral faculty who hold the appropriate
terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD)."
Working with the Director of
Clinical Education to obtain clinical practice settings and/or assisting with
student supervision in the clinic.
Direct the professional CSD and
SLP programs in all its phases, including approval of teaching staff,
selection of appropriate clinical sites, admission, progression, probation,
dismissal of students, and enforcement of student policies.
Additional responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
Providing evidence of faculty
expertise and knowledge to teach curriculum content.
Verifying students' completion
of program requirements.
Bear overall responsibility for
the CSD & SLP education programs, including budgeting, faculty and staff
development, assessment, ongoing curriculum development and revision, student
recruitment, and meeting the accreditation requirements of ASHA and the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) as it applies to CSD
& SLP education.
Maintain
communication with the Dean and other University Administrative officials.
Completion of
all College or Graduate School required documents including the 5-year Annual
Report and the Annual Assessment of Learning Outcomes (ALOC) reports.
Guide and mentor students.
Guide long and short-term
strategic planning by providing a vision for the departments.
Guide development and
maintenance of departmental policies and procedures.
Provide leadership to
the department in scholarly and research efforts.
Promote and support
faculty professional development.
Promote departmental
involvement and communication within the college, university and community.
Support collaborative
and interdisciplinary experiences for faculty and students.
Provide service to the
University and community including active participation on various University
and College Committees.

& SLP faculty and staff.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
The Program Director
must meet the ASHA’s minimum qualifications for a program director as
articulated in Section 1.7: "The individual designated as program director
holds a graduate degree with a major emphasis in speech-language pathology, in audiology,
or in speech, language, and hearing science."
Must hold an unencumbered
current license or privilege to practice as a registered SLP in the state of Texas.
A doctoral degree is highly
preferred in a related field.
Two (2) or more years of teaching
experience in a professional CSD or SLP education program is highly recommended
and preferred.
Must have demonstrated
knowledge, skills, and abilities in administration within a professional
education program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must hold a current and
unencumbered license or eligibility for licensure to practice as a licensed SLP
or Audiologist in the State of Texas.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is a Full-Time,
Exempt Level Faculty Position with a limited teaching load at the
Hardin-Simmons University campus. Must be willing to relocate to Abilene,
Texas, or the surrounding area to teach in-person classes on the HSU campus.
A
minimum of a 40-hour work week is expected and possibly more during peak
periods of the academic year. Infrequent work on evenings or Saturdays, when
needed.
Must have and maintain a valid
Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable
under the university liability policy.
Must be able to drive to
complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Occasional travel may be
required.
