students, READ 3388 Child/Adolescent Literature, READ 4398 The Reading
Professional) (Spring- ECED 4311 Theory/Foundation Early Childhood, READ 3362
Reading Instruction for Adolescent students, READ 3364 Developing
Comprehensive/Inquiry, READ 4392- Organ & Materials for Reading) mentor and
advise education majors in the Irvin School of Education Teacher Preparation
Program. The faculty member must be willing to collaborate and serve on
university committees, as well as offer professional expertise to educational
areas in the community.
Supervision/organization of teacher preparation pre-student teaching
field experience in public schools.
Regular teaching load for a full-time faculty member is 12 semester
hours per long semester.
Additional
responsibilities include but are not limited to student advisement, recruiting,
service to the university and community, and ongoing departmental program
assessment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read,
analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial
reports, and legal documents. Ability to

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Doctorate preferred;
Masters required.
Credentials in Curriculum
and Instruction or related fields such as Reading Specialist required.
Current
Texas teacher certification or eligibility for the Texas credential required.
Familiarity
with best teaching practices in higher education (delivery
of instruction) through F2F courses and/or online courses required.
Must
possess strong understanding of Literacy, Reading (Emergent Reading, Adolescent
Reading, and Reading Strategies for ESL students), Dyslexia and evidence-based
practices.
Familiarity
with Professional Development Schools model and evidence of successful previous
experience in university-public school collaboration preferred.
Familiarity
with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Texas public schools and State
Board for Educator Certification/ Texas Education Agency standards preferred, including
discrete knowledge and skills for beginning teachers on which Texas teacher
preparation programs base curriculum and are held accountable.
Experience
in the public-school setting preferred.
Previous
university/college teaching experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Licenses,
Certificates or Registration Required: must be certified as a Licensed Teacher
in the State of Texas.
Reading Specialist is preferred.
Texas Teaching certificate preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This
position is a Full-Time Exempt Level position with a teaching load at the
Hardin-Simmons University campus. Must be willing to relocate to Abilene,
Texas, or the surrounding area to teach in-person classes on the HSU Campus.
Must
have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving
record to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must
be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Office
and classroom work; working with technology, travel for field
experiences.
