SUMMARY/SCOPE:
The dean provides leadership for the academic programs in
the College of Health Professions and supervises 25 full-time faculty and a
similar number of adjuncts. The College offers bachelor’s degrees in Communication
Sciences & Disorders, Exercise Science, Fitness Recreation & Sports
Management, Nursing, and Physical Education. It offers six graduate degrees: the
Doctor of Physical Therapy, the Master of Physician Assistant Studies, the
Master of Science in Kinesiology, Sport & Recreation, the Master of Science
in Speech-Language Pathology, the online Master of Athletic Training, and the
Doctor of Medical Science, scheduled to begin in Spring 2025. Leadership is
needed in the form of planning, development, and implementation of all academic
programs within the College. The successful candidate will need to have
excellent communication skills and to be able to work closely with other deans
and university administrators. The dean is responsible for the preparation of
comprehensive annual reports for the HSU Board of Trustees and accrediting
agencies. The dean will work with foundations, organizations, and donors of the
College to promote growth of endowment and support. Active participation in
state and national professional organizations is encouraged.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The dean will supervise nine department heads, twenty-five
full-time faculty, and roughly twenty-five adjunct faculty, staff, and student
workers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read,
analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence,
and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from groups of administration, faculty, students and the general
public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such
as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as
fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability
to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of
intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas,
scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to
deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS: To
perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing
software; spreadsheet software; and Internet software.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Earned doctorate from an accredited program required in one of the teaching
fields in the College of Health Professions.
Excellent teaching and communication skills required.
This position
is a non-tenure track appointment with a 12-month annual contract.

job is sedentary in nature. While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to sit for long periods while performing office

trips across campus from one building to another may be required.

employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift
and/or move up to 20 - 25 pounds.
Must be able to operate standard laboratory equipment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is a Full-Time Exempt Level Faculty
position with a teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus. Must be
willing to relocate to Abilene, Texas, or the surrounding area to teach
in-person classes on the HSU Campus.
Occasional travel may be required for student
evaluation/sponsorship and professional development.
Must have and
maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record
to be insurable under the university liability policy.
Must be able to
drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.
Additional travel
may be required on occasion for training workshops and/or professional
conferences, etc.
