SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Website Communications Specialist will lead the strategy, content, and performance of the HSU website to drive traffic, generate leads, and improve conversions. Key responsibilities include partnering with departments to keep content current and engaging, optimizing website functionality, and coordinating with digital vendors to support complex web needs. This role requires data collection and KPI reporting to assess website impact and guide strategic decisions. Ideal candidates are strategic thinkers with strong technical expertise, dedicated to enhancing the university’s online presence and driving digital growth.

HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Website Strategy & Optimization

Develop and implement strategies to increase organic traffic, generate leads, and improve conversions on the HSU website.

Continuously monitor website performance, functionality, and experience and provide recommendations for navigation, layout, and design elements to enhance user experience and increase conversion rates.

Oversee conversion rate optimization across landing pages and other site components to streamline the user journey and reduce friction.

SEO & Content Management

Manage onsite and offsite content strategies to improve SEO and user interface, collaborating with outside vendors as needed.

Conduct keyword research and optimize pages for search engine rankings, ensuring content meets SEO standards.

Partner with the Director of University Marketing and the Communications and Content Strategy Specialist to review website marketing content to maximize visibility, engagement, and alignment with broader marketing tactics.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Coordination

Work with departments across campus, such as Admissions, Athletics, Advancement, Alumni, and Academics, to keep web content current and aligned with HSU’s marketing strategy.

Collaborate with HSU’s external web developer (Deep Space Robots) to maintain the HSU website, ensuring it remains visually appealing, functional, and up-to-date.

Coordinate with Admissions and other stakeholders to support email marketing initiatives, web maintenance, SEO, and improvements to boost enrollment rates.

Data Analysis & Reporting

Regularly review web analytics, using tools like Google Analytics to monitor and analyze website performance, content effectiveness, and conversion metrics.

Collaborate with the Director for University Marketing to review monthly analytics, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions for site optimization.

Prepare and present KPI reports that assess website impact and inform strategic website improvements.

Governance & Maintenance

Oversee website governance by working with departments to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and consistency.

Learn and train others on WordPress functionality, providing website and SEO training to faculty, staff, and team members as needed.

Industry Awareness & Continuous Improvement

Stay informed of digital marketing and website trends, implementing new insights to enhance the HSU website.

Lead A/B testing and personalization techniques to refine user experience and path-to-conversion strategies.

Attend weekly marketing meetings to provide digital insights, update team members on web developments, and brainstorm ideas for continuous improvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Project Management software; Human Resource systems and Contact Management systems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in communications, marketing, journalism, or other related fields required.  

Strong familiarity with implementation and development required.

Required experience and technical skills include:

HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript

WordPress development and maintenance

Live troubleshooting of websites

Writing and editorial

Attention to detail

Strong familiarity with analytics and analysis of complex datasets

Strong familiarity with Digital Advertising platforms such as AdWords, BingAds, and Social Media Platforms.

Drive to consistently research and test new techniques and strategies in digital marketing.

In-depth knowledge of integrated marketing and digital disciplines.

Promote teamwork in the office and across campus.

Reflective and analytical; appreciative of feedback and dedicated to improvement and self-development.

Three to five years of experience in digital marketing in a professional setting preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt/Hourly Staff Position at the HSU campus.

A regular 40-hour workweek is required at a minimum (plus occasional overtime).

Working beyond a normal 40-hour week is necessary at times, including occasional nights and weekends in order to meet project deadlines.

All hours worked beyond 40 hours in a single work week will be compensated at time and a half, per FLSA guidelines.

Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liability policy.

Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.

Some travel and irregular work hours are required at times for training, meetings, etc.
