SUMMARY/SCOPE:

The Department of Physical Therapy at Hardin-Simmons University seeks an applicant to join our dynamic and passionate faculty as assistant/associate professor. This is a 12-month, full-time non-tenure track faculty position.  The preferred candidate must have a physical therapy license with strengths and interests in acute care, cardiovascular & pulmonary, or foundational clinical skills. Aligning with our mission of “preparing individuals who demonstrate excellence in the practice of physical therapy and are enlightened by Christian faith and values” is essential for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Assume the role of primary instructor or lab assistant for a variety of courses with a focus on acute care, cardiovascular & pulmonary, and foundational clinical skills.

Assist in laboratory and practical exam experiences; serve as an expert guest speaker within and outside the department.

Prepare and present materials in areas of assigned courses that meet learning objectives.

Develop assessments to evaluate student competencies within courses.

Establish and carry out an active scholarly agenda.

Participate in university, community, and professional service activities.

Advise and mentor students through the curriculum and on research projects.

Complete yearly university assessments for self and peer evaluation.

Participate in patient care and program pro bono clinical services.

Represent the PT Department and University in an ethical and Christian manner.

Demonstrate an active interest in the Department’s mission activities.

Utilize CANVAS as the Learning Management System as course professor.

Display excellent communication skills including conflict resolution and mentoring.

Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

Ability to implement active online teaching applications preferred.

Other duties as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

There are no supervisor responsibilities, except for supervision of student workers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning and Computer Skills):

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.), in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Contact Management systems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor’s degree with a clinical doctorate is the minimal requirement for teaching in a DPT program.      

A DPT degree with post-professional doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or ScD) highly preferred; those working towards completion of post-professional doctorate will be considered.

ABPTS or other specialty certification preferred.

Previous teaching or guest lecture experience in physical therapy program preferred.

Minimum of 4 years of practice experience as a licensed physical therapist.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a PT in the state of Texas required. 

Current CPR certification for all ages is required.

This position requires standing/sitting for lectures, stooping, squatting, kneeling, getting up and down from the floor and lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently.

The job is active in nature. Must be able to stand and walk during teaching and programming events/activities.

Must be able to make trips across campus to various buildings and offices.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Indoor state-of-the-art classroom teaching environment with 40 students/class.

Human cadaver gross anatomy laboratory teaching with 40 students/class.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is a Full-Time Exempt Level Faculty position with a teaching load at the Hardin-Simmons University campus. Must be willing to relocate to Abilene, Texas, or the surrounding area to teach in-person classes on the HSU Campus

Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver’s License and maintain a clear driving record tobe insurable under the university liability policy.

Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on and off campus, as needed.

Infrequent travel may be required on occasion in order to attend training, etc. Additional travel may be required for student evaluation/sponsorship and/or professional development.
